FOOD FOR THOUGHT


The USA spends nearly 700 billion dollars annually on the military and only 3 billion on the FDA (and Bush wanted to cut that even lower). Yet food poisoning kills far more people every year than terrorists or foreign armies have, so why do we fear dying one way so much more than the other way? Either way, dead is dead

This is a good point, but I'm not sure it's necessary the amount of money thrown at the FDA that will fix it: rather, the entire organization needs to be completely overhauled. $3 billion to the FDA is a big chunk of cash, but all they do is give blanket approvals to pharma and unhealthy foods. Where is the safety regulation?

I was hoping Obama would replace the FDA, but looks like the lobbyists got to him too...
