Measles spots from "science" that's hardly spot on

 Near Fort Worth, Texas there is a mega church where almost 2 dozen cases of measles - a disease once thought eradicated - have now originated. Now they are giving the children measles shots, but this disease which is totally preventable only became renewable because these people had chosen  not to be fully vaccinated. Why? Because many people seem to erroneously believe that getting vaccinated is connected to autism, and their logic and their science is hardly spot on. Which regrettably is why their bodies have spots on them.  Golly, you just plain folks, if you weren't working so hard on secession petitions, maybe in the case preventable disease you'd be  succeeding

Guns don’t hurt people…

The NRA has long claimed that “guns don’t kill (or hurt) people, people kill people”. That statement got additional gravitas when on Saturday night James Pace Sr. 81 years of age (from the New Haven, CT area) lay in wait for a problem raccoon. During the “hunt” he sneezed, fell out of his chair, and accidentally shot himself in the leg (thankfully, he will be fine). So we can add to the NRA’s disclaimer that guns don’t hurt people…sneezes hurt people.

Newsflash, or maybe not

One of the big big pushers for keeping the aid to the Egyptian military as was pointed out today's New York Times and on "This Week " is (of course) Israel. And reluctantly I have to agree. Could you only call off aid once? Or maybe they should emulate my new approach "to half  and to half not"?

No not another Cuban embargo

There is a rumor and we hope it's true that Mark Cuban wants to buy the New York Yankees and there's another rumor that Major League Baseball will prevent this innovative and certainly committed owner from getting into their "club". Why Hank and Hal Silverspooners are not helping the Yankees, please MLB not another Cuban embargo.

Mr. Bush, here's to your health and care

Although I never did vote for George W. Bush as President, I was relieved to learn that he had come through his medical cardiac procedure with flying colors. That said, I wish him continued good health, and of course, that which makes it possible…good health care.

Baseball trying, football lying

Baseball and football are different sports. Baseball is America’s pastime, day after day, month after month, football is America’s event. For example, so many fall and winter Sundays are built around the NFL, particularly the playoffs and most particularly the Super Bowl. That said, baseball has suspended a goodly number of stars for violating its rules against using PED’s, while football has shown much less proactivity in monitoring its cheaters. Maybe it’s because baseball drug offenders skew the record books that we all hold so dear and offensive linemen weighing over 300 pounds do not. Case in point, in 1970 only 1 NFL player weighed more than said 300 pounds while now there are nearly 600 so supersized. So it seems fair to say that while baseball is at least trying, football is still lying, to its fans and maybe to itself.

Aw Gee, GE

It turns out that the number one Corporation in United States of America for stashing  money off shore is (as many suspected all along) GE. It's a just a bit ironic, the people who run these corporations traditionally support Republican candidates who just as traditionally fight against forms of sensation. Surprising because what does GE care about taxes, they never pay them.

Forget Twitter, the next big thing is Barker

Some dogged entrepreneurs (pardon the pun) have come up with a station on cable to entertain "man's best friend". What it is, is a channel about dogs for dogs showing the dogs so they can hear dogs when they're alone in the house. However, unlike many cable stations it will not be free, we understand that the cost is $4.99 a month. Why the surcharge? Well because normally cable stations make their income from advertisements as their happy viewers whip out their credit card and spend on advertised  products. We expect the "viewers" of this canine cable source will be happy, but we believe the people who are marketing are correct...most of us don't give our pets purchasing power, as much as we love them.

The difference between an open mind and ideological mind is this; when an ideological mind learns conflicting facts it changes the way it argues. When the open minded person learns of inconsistencies, it changes the way they think.

Come Halliburton or high water

Halliburton has pleaded guilty regarding the 2011 Gulf spill, but not because the record shows them doing anything wrong. No because they records don't show anything at all since Haliburton destroyed them and that's what alas they are pleading guilty to doing. The CEO and major stockholders such as Dick Cheney, how could their moral compass go awry?

A goose that's worth a gander

The jury in Sanford, Florida has spoken and George Zimmerman has been acquitted of murdering Trayvon Martin. According to many legal experts this verdict was a good call, since the state did not meet the burden of proof beyond a reasonable doubt.  So  those who are upset with the verdict as well as those who are jubilant about it, all have to abide by the rule of law. And as is his  undeniable right, George Zimmerman chose not to testify in his own defense, an option which is ingrained in our legal system and should, of course,  continue. What should not continue, as I have so often heard from my friends on the right, is the presumption that when someone won't testify citing their right not to incriminate themselves it infers that they must certainly be guilty. That is an argument they can never legitimately use again, since their guy, George Zimmerman took that option. This would indeed appear to be food for thought as a sauce for the goose that is certainly worth a gander.

This week in dumb da dumb, dumb, dumb

 The High Court in Iowa had a pretty low standard when they backed up a dentist who said that he could fire his assistant because he considered HER too attractive.  It gets better. He said because of her attractiveness he had to fire her because - and this would not be his fault - he could have an affair with her. Are we sure Anthony Scalia and Clarence Thomas are not on that court?

Palin may have been the smart one. Republican congressman Michael Burgess last week argued against abortion based on the fact that fetuses feel pleasure as well as pain and inferred that they masturbate at 15 weeks in the womb. It gets better, he's an OB/GYN
