Kudos to Greta

Kudos (and  this is shock to us) to Greta Van Sustern from FOX News for offering  the quote of the day on the NSA controversy. She refers to "the plain language of the amendment" and basically says as follows "there is no fear exception to the Constitution". Greta you've given us - pardon the pun - some van sustenance.

 To succeed legally, the following is recommended: Use your insistence, take all assistance combined with your persistence overcoming resistance. And it sounds good too.

White supremacist: Not all that supreme

There is a man in Leith, North Dakota which if he has his way will be 100 percent all-white all the time. Slight problem; it seems someone submitted a sample of his DNA to a local talk show, and as it turns out Mr. Cobb is neither all right nor all white as he is part black. Which in his world makes him all-black. As a local black resident so astutely commented "is he going to kick his own self out of town and discriminate against himself?"
If he does he should call the ACLU to defend himself from himself, although if I were the judge I would ask Mr. Cobb "can't you and Mr. Cobb work it out"?

Rock paper scissors by rote we mean robot

At the University of Japan they have developed a robot which can recognize the game of "rock paper scissors" and as the other person is opening and/or closing their hand in 1000th of a second the robot can anticipate and win 100 percent of the time. But as they said on NBC news is the robot having any real fun I would say by reflex.

A catch up on ketchup

 McDonald's after decades has dropped Heinz ketchup.  No not on the floor, but from their stores and it's because a Burger King executive - or should we say a former one - is now working for Heinz. Fast food news, slow news day.

A drug trend

In the first poll in 1969 whether marijuana should be legalized, 12% said yes and 84% said no. Just last year 48% said yes and 50% said no. This year 58% said yes and 39% no, this trend may be very tough in the future for drug dealers of America.

Did they read the bill???

Republicans asked for the following, in exchange for reopening the government and lifting the debt ceiling: Defund Obamacare, delay Obamacare, delay individual mandate, deny coverage for the president, deny coverage to the cabinet, deny coverage to congressional staffers, deny birth-control coverage, approve keystone pipeline, means testing for Medicaid, change federal employee pensions, expand oil drilling, block net neutrality, tort reform, weaken regulations for coal-fired power plants, tax code changes, thwart EPA coal regulations, repeal medical device tax, change rules on debt ceiling. What they got was means testing for Medicaid, which was already in the bill...we thinks they didn't read the bill.

NFL finally gets red-faced on the Redskins

Obviously the term "Redskin" is offensive to many, not just Native Americans.  That said, to those who would ignore the feelings of others or make a joke of the term "politically correct" let us offer this: those whom we demean, whom we marginalize, and whom we objectivize, are those who we can - and historically have - harmed. A far better  term than "politically correct" would be "humanly correct"; if we start from there, we can well finish in a good place or at least a better one.

A Corker of an idea

Sen. Robert Corker, Republican of Tennessee said today "you know we spent two months focusing on the wrong thing defunding Obamacare". First of all it's the Affordable healthcare act, secondly it's the law, and thirdly you finally figure this out now? It only took two months!!!

Quality enemies

As one fraction (the Tea Party) of one third of our government affects the lives of all those governed by it I am struck by their unity. And that unity seems to be that they truly are against anything and everything that Barack Obama supports, no matter who or how many are hurt. Their single minded enmity brings to mind  the memorable sentiment of Franklin Roosevelt, that he is happy to be judged by the quality - or should we say lack thereof - of his enemies.

 

Acting like a grown up

When Obama lost on his attempt to get an assault weapons ban and background checks he took it like a grown-up. When the Republicans lost in stopping healthcare they have obviously taken it like people who are in need of  a grown-up.

Oracle strips

Talk about a top (and for that matter bottom) line what kind of nights out did the Oracle employees have recently in San Francisco? Well the strip club that they spent their time in got them a major cover charge, to the tune of $33,000 that's what their unpaid tab is according to the lawsuit. Oracle at the present time is taking a hands-off approach to any response, as opposed to.....

Is this a sick joke or what?

The right wing while complaining about class warfare against the sometimes underprivileged hedge fund managers is engaging in some class warfare of their own. First, they feel like poor people will lift themselves out of poverty if they are less nourished and thus they are fighting food stamps on all fronts. Secondly, the house just had its 40^th+ vote to defund Obamacare which would leave some 30 million Americans uncovered. But the “sick” joke here is that less than 50% of the American workers receive a single paid sick day. So with less food, no medical attention when ill, and lost wages when they attempt to recover…how can those below the poverty line or the working  poor not succeed? The way to succeed is to heed the words of B list actor and A list tea party spokesman Craig  T. Nelson who said on camera concerning his own unaided rise from poverty to success “when I was on welfare and food stamps who helped me”?

The blind bleeding the blind?

What could happen if a blind person shot another blind person? You are probably asking what's a blind person doing with a gun. Well in the state of Iowa, due to NRA influence he or she would have it legally, because they have gone to court to say that the Second Amendment is a right and that everyone should have this right to get permits specifically including blind people. So if one blind person winged another it would truly be the blind bleeding the blind. But seriously folks how do we make up crazy right-wing stuff given the reality of their make up?

We believe they had skittles

It turns out George Zimmerman is in the news, and involved with police again; as he pulled a gun on his wife, who oh golly, might divorce him, or might not, or who knows. He also punched her father. No charges have been filed as yet, because we have it on good authority that both Mrs. Zimmermann and her dad were in possession of skittles, iced tea and have an extensive collection of hoodies.
