If he does he should call the ACLU to defend himself from himself, although if I were the judge I would ask Mr. Cobb "can't you and Mr. Cobb work it out"?

Quality enemies |
As one fraction (the Tea Party) of one third of our government affects the lives of all those governed by it I am struck by their unity. And that unity seems to be that they truly are against anything and everything that Barack Obama supports, no matter who or how many are hurt. Their single minded enmity brings to mind the memorable sentiment of Franklin Roosevelt, that he is happy to be judged by the quality - or should we say lack thereof - of his enemies.

The right wing while complaining about class warfare against
the sometimes underprivileged hedge fund managers is engaging in some class
warfare of their own. First, they feel like poor people will lift themselves
out of poverty if they are less nourished and thus they are fighting food
stamps on all fronts. Secondly, the house just had its 40th+ vote to
defund Obamacare which would leave some 30 million Americans uncovered. But the
“sick” joke here is that less than 50% of the American workers receive a single
paid sick day. So with less food, no medical attention when ill, and lost wages
when they attempt to recover…how can those below the poverty line or the working
poor not succeed? The way to succeed is
to heed the words of B list actor and A list tea party spokesman Craig T. Nelson who said on camera concerning his
own unaided rise from poverty to success “when I was on welfare and food stamps
who helped me”?

It turns out George Zimmerman is in the news, and involved with police again; as he pulled a gun on his wife, who oh golly, might divorce him, or might not, or who knows. He also punched her father. No charges have been filed as yet, because we have it on good authority that both Mrs. Zimmermann and her dad were in possession of skittles, iced tea and have an extensive collection of hoodies.

The NRA has long claimed that “guns don’t kill (or hurt) people, people kill people”. That statement got additional gravitas when on Saturday night James Pace Sr. 81 years of age (from the New Haven, CT area) lay in wait for a problem raccoon. During the “hunt” he sneezed, fell out of his chair, and accidentally shot himself in the leg (thankfully, he will be fine). So we can add to the NRA’s disclaimer that guns don’t hurt people…sneezes hurt people.

Although I never did vote for George W. Bush as President, I
was relieved to learn that he had come through his medical cardiac procedure
with flying colors. That said, I wish him continued good health, and of course,
that which makes it possible…good health care.

Baseball and football are different sports. Baseball is
America’s pastime, day after day, month after month, football is America’s
event. For example, so many fall and winter Sundays are built around the NFL, particularly
the playoffs and most particularly the Super Bowl. That said, baseball has suspended
a goodly number of stars for violating its rules against using PED’s, while
football has shown much less proactivity in monitoring its cheaters. Maybe it’s
because baseball drug offenders skew the record books that we all hold so dear
and offensive linemen weighing over 300 pounds do not. Case in point, in 1970
only 1 NFL player weighed more than said 300 pounds while now there are nearly
600 so supersized. So it seems fair to say that while baseball is at least
trying, football is still lying, to its fans and maybe to itself.

It turns out that the number one Corporation in United States
of America for stashing money off shore is (as many suspected all along)
GE. It's a just a bit ironic, the people who run these corporations
traditionally support Republican candidates who just as traditionally
fight against forms of sensation. Surprising because what does GE care
about taxes, they never pay them.

We'll eschew the obvious puns, but suffice to say according to the authorities it's not illegal so why drain local resources. Sorry, we couldn't help it.

So it has happened, the post Newtown gun legislation has
been defeated U.S. Senate. And now as before, 40% of the gun sales in this
country (i.e. gun shows and over the Internet) will go on with no background checks.
But that begs the question; in what other context would the Senate and House
find such a 40% gap acceptable regarding the safety of their own families? Would
it be okay if the FAA only inspected 40% of the airplanes for safety, or if the
FDA Left 40% of our food uninspected? Would the NRA devotees in the US Congress
feel safe if the airlines only screened 60% of the luggage going on board our
flights? Probably not.
President Obama was
spot on when he said to those who would consider this a victory “a victory for
what a victory for whom?” Well those against this legislation, ignoring the actual
wording of the bill might well answer; for the survival of the Second
Amendment. Really? How about considering the survival of our country’s second
grades.

April 15, 2013 is the hundredth anniversary of the birth of Alice Lewin Bender, The music school at Yale '34. She is the lady in whose memory the Chabad House at Yale will be named. That is a singular honor for a woman of Yale, ahead of her time, of her time, but will be remembered in these times and for future times.
