Kudos to Greta

Kudos (and  this is shock to us) to Greta Van Sustern from FOX News for offering  the quote of the day on the NSA controversy. She refers to "the plain language of the amendment" and basically says as follows "there is no fear exception to the Constitution". Greta you've given us - pardon the pun - some van sustenance.

White supremacist: Not all that supreme

There is a man in Leith, North Dakota which if he has his way will be 100 percent all-white all the time. Slight problem; it seems someone submitted a sample of his DNA to a local talk show, and as it turns out Mr. Cobb is neither all right nor all white as he is part black. Which in his world makes him all-black. As a local black resident so astutely commented "is he going to kick his own self out of town and discriminate against himself?"
If he does he should call the ACLU to defend himself from himself, although if I were the judge I would ask Mr. Cobb "can't you and Mr. Cobb work it out"?

Rock paper scissors by rote we mean robot

At the University of Japan they have developed a robot which can recognize the game of "rock paper scissors" and as the other person is opening and/or closing their hand in 1000th of a second the robot can anticipate and win 100 percent of the time. But as they said on NBC news is the robot having any real fun I would say by reflex.

McDonald's after decades has dropped Heinz ketchup.  No not on the floor, but from their stores and it's because a Burger King executive - or should we say a former one - is now working for Heinz. Fast food news, slow news day.

A drug trend

In the first poll in 1969 whether marijuana should be legalized, 12% said yes and 84% said no. Just last year 48% said yes and 50% said no. This year 58% said yes and 39% no, this trend may be very tough in the future for drug dealers of America.

Did they read the bill???

Republicans asked for the following, in exchange for reopening the government and lifting the debt ceiling: Defund Obamacare, delay Obamacare, delay individual mandate, deny coverage for the president, deny coverage to the cabinet, deny coverage to congressional staffers, deny birth-control coverage, approve keystone pipeline, means testing for Medicaid, change federal employee pensions, expand oil drilling, block net neutrality, tort reform, weaken regulations for coal-fired power plants, tax code changes, thwart EPA coal regulations, repeal medical device tax, change rules on debt ceiling. What they got was means testing for Medicaid, which was already in the bill...we thinks they didn't read the bill.

NFL finally gets red-faced on the Redskins

Obviously the term "Redskin" is offensive to many, not just Native Americans.  That said, to those who would ignore the feelings of others or make a joke of the term "politically correct" let us offer this: those whom we demean, whom we marginalize, and whom we objectivize, are those who we can - and historically have - harmed. A far better  term than "politically correct" would be "humanly correct"; if we start from there, we can well finish in a good place or at least a better one.

A Corker of an idea

Sen. Robert Corker, Republican of Tennessee said today "you know we spent two months focusing on the wrong thing defunding Obamacare". First of all it's the Affordable healthcare act, secondly it's the law, and thirdly you finally figure this out now? It only took two months!!!

Quality enemies

As one fraction (the Tea Party) of one third of our government affects the lives of all those governed by it I am struck by their unity. And that unity seems to be that they truly are against anything and everything that Barack Obama supports, no matter who or how many are hurt. Their single minded enmity brings to mind  the memorable sentiment of Franklin Roosevelt, that he is happy to be judged by the quality - or should we say lack thereof - of his enemies.

Acting like a grown up

When Obama lost on his attempt to get an assault weapons ban and background checks he took it like a grown-up. When the Republicans lost in stopping healthcare they have obviously taken it like people who are in need of  a grown-up.

Oracle strips

Talk about a top (and for that matter bottom) line what kind of nights out did the Oracle employees have recently in San Francisco? Well the strip club that they spent their time in got them a major cover charge, to the tune of $33,000 that's what their unpaid tab is according to the lawsuit. Oracle at the present time is taking a hands-off approach to any response, as opposed to.....

Is this a sick joke or what?

The right wing while complaining about class warfare against the sometimes underprivileged hedge fund managers is engaging in some class warfare of their own. First, they feel like poor people will lift themselves out of poverty if they are less nourished and thus they are fighting food stamps on all fronts. Secondly, the house just had its 40th+ vote to defund Obamacare which would leave some 30 million Americans uncovered. But the “sick” joke here is that less than 50% of the American workers receive a single paid sick day. So with less food, no medical attention when ill, and lost wages when they attempt to recover…how can those below the poverty line or the working  poor not succeed? The way to succeed is to heed the words of B list actor and A list tea party spokesman Craig  T. Nelson who said on camera concerning his own unaided rise from poverty to success “when I was on welfare and food stamps who helped me”?

The blind bleeding the blind?

What could happen if a blind person shot another blind person? You are probably asking what's a blind person doing with a gun. Well in the state of Iowa, due to NRA influence he or she would have it legally, because they have gone to court to say that the Second Amendment is a right and that everyone should have this right to get permits specifically including blind people. So if one blind person winged another it would truly be the blind bleeding the blind. But seriously folks how do we make up crazy right-wing stuff given the reality of their make up?

We believe they had skittles

It turns out George Zimmerman is in the news, and involved with police again; as he pulled a gun on his wife, who oh golly, might divorce him, or might not, or who knows. He also punched her father. No charges have been filed as yet, because we have it on good authority that both Mrs. Zimmermann and her dad were in possession of skittles, iced tea and have an extensive collection of hoodies.

Measles spots from "science" that's hardly spot on

Near Fort Worth, Texas there is a mega church where almost 2 dozen cases of measles - a disease once thought eradicated - have now originated. Now they are giving the children measles shots, but this disease which is totally preventable only became renewable because these people had chosen  not to be fully vaccinated. Why? Because many people seem to erroneously believe that getting vaccinated is connected to autism, and their logic and their science is hardly spot on. Which regrettably is why their bodies have spots on them.  Golly, you just plain folks, if you weren't working so hard on secession petitions, maybe in the case preventable disease you'd be  succeeding

Guns don’t hurt people…

The NRA has long claimed that “guns don’t kill (or hurt) people, people kill people”. That statement got additional gravitas when on Saturday night James Pace Sr. 81 years of age (from the New Haven, CT area) lay in wait for a problem raccoon. During the “hunt” he sneezed, fell out of his chair, and accidentally shot himself in the leg (thankfully, he will be fine). So we can add to the NRA’s disclaimer that guns don’t hurt people…sneezes hurt people.

One of the big big pushers for keeping the aid to the Egyptian military as was pointed out today's New York Times and on "This Week " is (of course) Israel. And reluctantly I have to agree. Could you only call off aid once? Or maybe they should emulate my new approach "to half  and to half not"?

There is a rumor and we hope it's true that Mark Cuban wants to buy the New York Yankees and there's another rumor that Major League Baseball will prevent this innovative and certainly committed owner from getting into their "club". Why Hank and Hal Silverspooners are not helping the Yankees, please MLB not another Cuban embargo.

Mr. Bush, here's to your health and care

Although I never did vote for George W. Bush as President, I was relieved to learn that he had come through his medical cardiac procedure with flying colors. That said, I wish him continued good health, and of course, that which makes it possible…good health care.

Baseball trying, football lying

Baseball and football are different sports. Baseball is America’s pastime, day after day, month after month, football is America’s event. For example, so many fall and winter Sundays are built around the NFL, particularly the playoffs and most particularly the Super Bowl. That said, baseball has suspended a goodly number of stars for violating its rules against using PED’s, while football has shown much less proactivity in monitoring its cheaters. Maybe it’s because baseball drug offenders skew the record books that we all hold so dear and offensive linemen weighing over 300 pounds do not. Case in point, in 1970 only 1 NFL player weighed more than said 300 pounds while now there are nearly 600 so supersized. So it seems fair to say that while baseball is at least trying, football is still lying, to its fans and maybe to itself.

Aw Gee, GE

It turns out that the number one Corporation in United States of America for stashing  money off shore is (as many suspected all along) GE. It's a just a bit ironic, the people who run these corporations traditionally support Republican candidates who just as traditionally fight against forms of sensation. Surprising because what does GE care about taxes, they never pay them.

Forget Twitter, the next big thing is Barker

Some dogged entrepreneurs (pardon the pun) have come up with a station on cable to entertain "man's best friend". What it is, is a channel about dogs for dogs showing the dogs so they can hear dogs when they're alone in the house. However, unlike many cable stations it will not be free, we understand that the cost is $4.99 a month. Why the surcharge? Well because normally cable stations make their income from advertisements as their happy viewers whip out their credit card and spend on advertised  products. We expect the "viewers" of this canine cable source will be happy, but we believe the people who are marketing are correct...most of us don't give our pets purchasing power, as much as we love them.

A goose that's worth a gander

The jury in Sanford, Florida has spoken and George Zimmerman has been acquitted of murdering Trayvon Martin. According to many legal experts this verdict was a good call, since the state did not meet the burden of proof beyond a reasonable doubt.  So  those who are upset with the verdict as well as those who are jubilant about it, all have to abide by the rule of law. And as is his  undeniable right, George Zimmerman chose not to testify in his own defense, an option which is ingrained in our legal system and should, of course,  continue. What should not continue, as I have so often heard from my friends on the right, is the presumption that when someone won't testify citing their right not to incriminate themselves it infers that they must certainly be guilty. That is an argument they can never legitimately use again, since their guy, George Zimmerman took that option. This would indeed appear to be food for thought as a sauce for the goose that is certainly worth a gander.

The High Court in Iowa had a pretty low standard when they backed up a dentist who said that he could fire his assistant because he considered HER too attractive.  It gets better. This weekend dumb da dumb dumb, dumb

Its not easy being green. The North Carolina State Legislature noticed that people who were driving hybrid or electric cars use fewer gallons of gas. Okay that makes sense. What they didn't like is that by not using all that gas they are not paying taxes on all that gas they are not using, so they have proposed a "solution". And that would be a special tax on hybrids and electric cars, $50 a year on a hybrid, $100 on an electric so even if those car owners save on gas, they won't save on gas taxes. Are we sure the North Carolina legislators are Republican not populated by Kenyan Socialists?

Rather, (and I have to repeat he actually believes this) he maintains that Tina Fey and Sarah Palin are the same person pulling a hoax on the American people. Right, and the plot originates from President Obama's Kenyan socialist mosque. Even more surprising...I met him at a luxury car dealership...I guess brains and wealth are not always synonymous.

Fun faux quote of the week

Senator Marco Rubio appeared on "This week" spoke about the election in Iran of cleric Hassan Rowhani who advocates a "more conciliatory" approach to the world. Mr. Rubio said "he is moderate by Iranian  political standards which is not what we would describe as moderate here in the west". Remember, Marco Rubio is considered moderate by the Tea Party standards, which again, is not how we would describe "moderate" in the west.

This weekend, in dumb da dumb dumb, dumb

On the subject of designated drivers, it turns out that folks under the influence need some better influences. Surveys show conclusively that at least 40% of the "designated drivers" actually drink and 20% to the point of being impaired. Apparently the "designated drivers" are chosen by their group because they are (according to their answers on surveys) "the least drunk among them". That's like the most capable inmate running the asylum.

The city of Milford, CT seems determined to take the lead as  Connecticut's most backwoods backwards city by  coming out with an "interesting" calendar for the 2013-2014 school year. Looking for a hedge against snow days they decided to cut off two particular holidays, the first being Veterans Day and the second being Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. I'm spelling out what Rosh Hashanah is because it's possible people from Milford reading this might not know. In any event under pressure they immediately backed off. But as a Vietnam veteran who is Jewish I am compelled to ask, Milford how don't I love thee, let me count the ways, While you're counting snow days.

This week in Who'd of thunk it

"Concerned conservatives" on the debt crisis might have a way to deal with it in the future, politically that is. That's because since World War II only three presidents have left office with a higher debt to GDP ratio than when they came in, and their names are Reagan, Bush, and Bush. So how do Republicans improve the debt ratio? Based on history, vote for Democrat Presidents.

This weekend dumb da dumb dumb

Pierre Lapupu of the NRA said to the convention in Texas this week "how many Bostonians wish they had a gun the day of the Boston Marathon?" Ok, and what would you have had these armed Bostonians do exactly? Shoot randomly at flying bomb fragments? Shoot the young man mistakenly identified as the bomber on the cover of the New York Post? Or maybe every kid with a backpack running away? Hey Mr. Lapupu why not wonder how many New Yorkers on 9/11, 2001,wish they could have shot the incoming airliners because guns solve everything? Or seriously now, how many wish they had a president was not so obsessed with allowing assault rifles to again be legal and clearing brush, that he actually took the time to read memos such as "Osama bin Laden determined to attack United States"?

This week on Dumb da dumb dumb

Granted the state of Mississippi is still one of the tardiest brain groups on the planet having taken until 1995 to ratify the 13th amendment and then until 2013 to forward it to the federal government. But there's a close second, well...make that seconds, namely Japan and Russia. It seems that these two "enlightened" countries have decided that maybe, just maybe, it's time to officially call an end to World War II. That's right a state of war still "officially" exists between them and they are "thinking" that maybe it's time to wrap things up. What gave it away that WWII was over? That's right, it was in all the papers. And that's this weekend dumb da dumb dumb, dumb.

This week in strange strange strange

A trickle-down mystery: Believe it or not, over the weekend police in Newtown found an abandoned house with 200 to 300 gallons of - and this is the truth - urine.
We'll eschew the obvious puns, but suffice to say according to the authorities it's not illegal so why drain local resources. Sorry, we couldn't help it.

The 60% solution

So it has happened, the post Newtown gun legislation has been defeated U.S. Senate. And now as before, 40% of the gun sales in this country (i.e. gun shows and over the Internet) will go on with no background checks. But that begs the question; in what other context would the Senate and House find such a 40% gap acceptable regarding the safety of their own families? Would it be okay if the FAA only inspected 40% of the airplanes for safety, or if the FDA Left 40% of our food uninspected? Would the NRA devotees in the US Congress feel safe if the airlines only screened 60% of the luggage going on board our flights? Probably not.

President Obama was spot on when he said to those who would consider this a victory “a victory for what a victory for whom?” Well those against this legislation, ignoring the actual wording of the bill might well answer; for the survival of the Second Amendment. Really? How about considering the survival of our country’s second grades.

This weekend dumb da dumb dumb

Donald Trump has dropped his suit against Bill Maher when he suggested that due to the obvious physical similarities, and in full birther spirit, how could people not consider the possibility of a goodly amount of orangutan DNA in Mr. Trump. In any event Trumps reason for discontinuing legal action is because he now claims he has a sense of humor. We kinda sorta believe it's because he knew, at least after his lawyers told him, that there was no way in hell he was going to Dar-WIN in court. Anyway, we are glad to see Mr. Trump is undergoing some sort of personal evolution of his species.

There's a number of very unhappy men in Kabul, Afghanistan (at least, it seems there always are), but they have a new "reason" to be upset. That is because women, appropriately dressed by their standards, fully arm and leg covered women, have formed a bicycle riding team and are competing and winning local metals. Some of the more "traditionally brained"men say this is not women's role, and we at RFN say let them roll. You go ladies.

We're not sure if this is true, but there's a rumor that when Donald Trump sued Bill Maher for saying Trump was related to an orangutan (referencing among other things his hairstyle coloring) that Mr. Maher got a change of venue to (drumroll) Orange, California. That's this weeks off-color humor.

The tea party intellectuals (forgive us the term) assured us four years ago that once Barack Obama's policies were in place the stock market would surely plummet. Now anything that goes up always comes down as the stock market has shown from time to time although historically there has been basically one direction. But can't  they (the tea party) look at what has happened in the last 4+ years and even if they won't admit they're wr-wr-wro-wro, well they can't say the word. Can't they at least allow maybe they weren't right?

This week dumb da dumb dumb, dumb

FOX News (always a contradiction in terms) said about Chuck Hagel that one of the sources of his funding that he has not disclosed formerly is an organization called "friends of Hamas", pretty sinister sounding indeed. This originates from a question by a Daily News reporter named Dan Friedman. The "great one" Stephen Colbert said that Friedman called a Republican aide on Capitol Hill with a question, since he was attempting to dig up dirt and asked if Hagel had given a speech to... the 'Junior league of Hezbollah' .."or "Friends of Hamas" feeling "no one could take seriosuly the idea that such organizations even exist". He was asking the question satirically!!!  So again the contradiction Fox .... News. And as Steven said what else is Chuck Hagel "hiding"?

This week in smart smart, smart smart

Many states are weighing whether gun owners should be required to carry insurance umbrellas in case of accidental or intentional self-defense shootings. Nelson Lind a professor of Constitutional law and the Second Amendment at George Mason University school of law made a pretty salient remark. He said "if this were done, the private insurance market would quickly and efficiently make it prohibitively expensive for people with a record of irresponsible ownership of guns to possess them legally". The opposite of that would be dumb da dumb, dumb, dumb.

Ayes to the Newt

We have to give Newt Gingrich credit for two great remarks on the Sunday talk show circuit. First in intellectual political awareness he compared the Democrats to a Super Bowl team and Republicans to a mid-level college team. And secondly he said regarding their political strategy to connect with 311 million people, "if your airplane flies into the mountain you may consider getting a better radar system."

This weekend fun fun, fun fun, fun

On "This week" two military "experts" George Will and Newt Gingrich talked about the importance of possible Pentagon budget cuts in the coming sequester, if it happens. What's fun fun fun fun is that so far what these men have shown is that the only thing they know about the military is that they want to be in it, as they had numerous draft deferments between them. In fact when Newt Gingrich said he is a "deficit hawk" we now realize that in the new Republican dictionary "deficit" equals "chicken".

Marco Rubio's rebuttal to Barack Obama outside of being factually challenged, is strategically challenged as well. Nowhere did he talk about our #1 ally in the Mideast and the only true democracy there, namely Israel. This surprised us, as Sen. America's worst investments

A dance studio for the Chassidim.

Republican exit polls

Gov. Bobby Junedale said Republicans had to stop being the "stupid party", Bill Maher said they had to stop being the "crazy party" but we have a different take here at real FOX News. With thanks to Dick Gregory we learned the following from the exit polls in the November presidential election; 60% said the income tax rate should either go up on all Americans or those with incomes above $250,000. 59 percent said abortion should be legal in all or most cases and 65% said that illegal immigrants should have a legal status. Maybe being the "stupid party" or the "crazy party" has simply resulted in they're being the "wrong party". This is sad, because America needs two correct parties at least on basic issues and fairness, which the conservative movement (i.e. the Republican Party) have historically been on the wrong side and  sadly almost every single time. Aside from not being the party of the present they're barely the party of the recent past.

This week in political dumb dumb da dumb dumb

At a political speech this weekend in Wyoming, Dick Cheney eviscerated President Obama's choices for Secretary of State and Secretary of Defense. What's fascinating to us is that Mr. Cheney has as many draft deferments avoiding service in Vietnam, five (5) as nominees John Kerry and Chuck Hagel have purple hearts. Does this  make them automatically qualified? No, but it certainly brings to mind one of the most truly trusted homilies: consider the source. And based on Mr. Cheney's record for policy and non service to this country there's really none there.

American sniper, American culture, American irony

Chris Kyle had a best-selling book called "American sniper", and a sniper he was. He served four tours in Iraq and is one of the most decorated snipers in our military. But the American culture and the American irony caught up with the American sniper in Texas this past week, and at a gun range of all places. The survivor of the high-risk combat succumbed to the fatal American gun cultures, as he was shot dead by an individual who happened to be a former Marine, and someone it was believed that Mr. Kyle was counseling on his struggles with PTSD. Again our culture makes sure everyone has access to a gun, but you dont have access to mental health counseling which claimed another victim in some ways the least likely and in some ways the most ironic. What we don't get to say is who could see it coming....

The lobbyist for gun  rights in Hartford, CT a man named Robert Crook (yes that's his real name ) has defended the rights for people to practice Target shooting with assault rifles. He says it's a game, much like bowling, can we use the pinhead analogy at this point?

This week in right-wing; dumb da dumb da dumb dumb

One James Tracy a"professor" in the field of media history employed by Florida Atlantic University has outdone all the previous right-wing conspiracy nuts for 2013. The year has just begun, but he is already a winner. Here's his theory: The Newtown shootings were part of a conspiracy so the government could confiscate weapons. What should be confiscated is his license to teach in an American University, and probably his right to drive because he's way off the road. For all those who say they all do it, find me anyone, anywhere near as wacky on the left side...I'd love to hear about it, and real FOX News would sure be glad to print it. In the meantime the correct description of Mr. Tracy would be obviously unprintable.

The Louse of Representatives

Once again Eric Cantor is singing off key and you have to really wonder who this member of the House of Representatives actually  represents. 64% of Americans (or more) agrees there should be a tax rise on those Americans that are most fortunate financially, and the fact is that 67% of those very Americans agree that they should be paying higher taxes. And with a 89 to 8 majority, the US Senate approved such a measure. But those louses of representatives just won't put it to a vote even though they know it would get approximately 40 to 50% of the Republican vote and almost all the Democrats, and would most certainly pass. Some years back there was a song called "Coward of the County" but these Republicans are cowards of the country. And to repeat, just whom do they represent?

The Faux News Network Principles

A) We distort, you abide
B) Or we retort if you deride, unless we choose not to
C) Complete sentences are acceptable in lieu of complete truths
D) It’s OK to criticize the 2006 Democratic Congress for all America’s problems since 2001
E) We shoot from the flip
F) We’re not always accurate but we’re always certain
G) On what we feel is wrong in this world, we can’t stop people from saying I don’t agree or I don’t care, but we won’t let them say I didn’t know
H) The director’s board has a whim of irony
I) In times of emergency, we should rally around our President: In times of democracy he should do the same for us
J) We proudly plagiarize in advance, examples available upon request
K) It’s easy to be fun-based when you’re fact based
L) Good news parody makes for good news parity
M) And, of course, our goal is and always will be to be the most trusted name in Faux News
