The Obama whitehouse has misfired in selling their health plan. They were talking to the 80% of American who already have health care, and hoping they would be concerned with those who don’t have it. Sad to say, humans are selfish, Americans are humans, and therefore we are a selfish country. However if you do have health care keep in mind that it is only as good as your employment status and your health pre-conditions. Because if your company goes under or you lose your job and you have any type of pre-existing condition it might just make it a bit easier to see things from the administrations prospective and good luck getting insurance. In terms of the insurance industry, consider this; which other industry has 20% of their employees there only to make sure they DON’T do their job (paying for claims)? Imagine if 20% of the police or fire department was there to ensure that calls were not responded to. Scary, huh? |

I have health insurance though my employer (former) until a few months from now. I was laid off back in January and the only reason that we still have health insurance is due to my severance package. Soon (unless I find new employment) we will be faced with either 1. pay top dollar to keep some of the coverage that we have had. 2. go with COBERA or 3. do without.
The first two options are basically the same price but, without a job I am not sure how we would come up with the $$. The third option is out of the question since my wife has ongoing and some life long health issues. Not to mention that neither one of us would ever be picked up for private insurance. I had cancer 18 years ago and for my type of cancer 18 years clean is considered cured by the medical community but, not the insurance companies.
In my view the entire system needs to be revamped.
